Differenter J. Walter Thompson
Differenter is a collective of employees within JWT NY whose mission is to celebrate and champion the things that make each of us unique. Whether it’s our heritage, a hidden talent, or a lifelong passion, we believe everyone possesses something that makes them “Differenter.” The group strives to educate, inspire and promote understanding and participation both in & out of the agency. Formerly known as the Diversity Council, the group was behind: “The Stay Strong, Haiti” fundraiser, the T.O.R.C.H. Mentorship Program, the JWT Annual Multicultural Mixer during Internet Week, JWT’s Women’s Equality Day installation, and most recently a documentary showcasing NYC’s present day history makers in honor of Black History Month.

The Cooper Union Saturday Program
For the past 50 years, students have continued to come to the Saturday Program for opportunities that are increasingly hard to come by: the chance to work with other young hopeful artists and architects—all current students at The Cooper Union—who teach high schoolers drawing, sculpting, design, and painting skills. Attendees also glean information about applying to art school that the average guidance counselor wouldn’t have the time to source. The portfolio prep class is a case in point. A free, two-semester course, Portfolio Prep gives seniors from New York city public high schools the instruction, materials, and mentoring they need to develop competitive portfolios for college applications. At the same time, the class teaches students how to articulate their ideas so they can fully participate in a college atmosphere with confidence.
